AFTER HOLST was commissioned by Suzanne Corey-Sahlin for the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra String Quartet, and premiered by them at the Aldrich Museum. AFTER HOLST is based on the ever-popular hymn Jupiter hymn from Gustav Holst’s The Planets (also known as Thaxted; also known as I Vow to Thee, My Country). AFTER HOLST is in two movements: the first movement is a straight-forward arrangement of the original. The second movement, to be played immediately after the first, is a contrapuntal exploration of the possibilities inherent in the original.”
